The nationally known St. Cloud State University Wind Ensemble will present GANBARE JAPAN!--A Relief Benefit Concert to the aid and spiritual healing of Japan on Tuesday night, March 20th, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at Kimberly Ritsche Auditorium. American classics by Samuel Barber and Morten Lauridsen will be performed alongside recent, authentic root Japanese band works by Soichi Konagaya and Toshio Mashima. The SCSU Japan Net will present Japanese festival customs, attire, and traditions in the lobby preceding the concert, and Director of Bands Dr. Richard (Rik) K. Hansen, will give a special pre-concert talk on his residency experiences teaching in Japan and on the current state of rebuilding in Japan. Informative videos of the Triple Disaster of March 11, 2011 and Skype Interviews conveying profiles of courage from the Japanese people will be shown during the concert.

Watchwords of the event, GANBARE JAPAN! [gahn-bah-ray] mean to adhere with tenacity. The mantra is used to encourage the Japanese people, who are undertaking a very difficult task. Additional meanings are: Don’t give up! Do your best! Give your all! Donations will be taken at the event with all proceeds going directly to CRASH JAPAN the Christian Relief Assistance Support organization of Tokyo churches to meet the needs of survivors in Tohoku. Tickets are free for SCSU Students, Faculty, and Staff with SCSU I.D., Children Under 12, Senior Citizens, and Veterans. Adult tickets are $8.00. Advanced tickets can be obtained at the Atwood Ticket Office 320-308-4081. For further information contact Dr. Richard K. Hansen, Director of Bands at
