Join us for February's Granite City Book Club on Wednesday, February 19th at 6:30 p.m. February's pick is "Emily's Run" by David P. Holmes. The meetings are informal and casual; participants sit around tables arranged in a circle drinking wine, snacking, and discussing the books. Westside Liquor generously donates Minnesota grown wines to be enjoyed at every meeting, and snacks are also provided. Book Club meetings are free to Stearns History Museum members. Non-members are $7.

Book Synopsis: Emily Parkhurst is running to save her and her daughter’s life. Roger, her unstable ex-husband, is on a murderous rampage to eliminate his family as witnesses to the despicable things he has done to his daughter. His carnage and outrageous acts bring devastation to the North Shore of Lake Superior in his quest to remove anyone who gets in his way or who can implicate him.

The author says the following about his book: “Emily's Run is about domestic and child abuse. The language and situations are moderated. The books I write are graphic in the sense that the stories are as real as real can get, without being crude. I've received abundant praise for bringing the story to print from women who read it. The happenings in the book are taken from true life experiences of abused women, then condensed into one unrecognizable story. Its fiction based on fact. There is nothing pretty about the topic, and if the audience isn't used to the harshness of life, they may be startled in reading this.”

Book Club picks can be purchased in the Museum Store 2-3 months ahead of time, and are offered at a 20% discount. But feel free to get the books from your local library or borrow them from a friend.
