The Stearns History Museum is pleased to announce Amy Thielen as the speaker for Museum’s 3rd annual fundraiser. “Midwestern Flavors” is the theme of the event and Thielen will talk about Midwestern cuisine, her cookbook, and her Food Network show. The fundraiser will be held on Thursday, April 24th at the Gorecki Center at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. The social will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. Recipes from her cookbook will be used in the meal and she will also do a cooking demonstration as part of her presentation.

The Park Rapids, MN, native writer and chef has been receiving a lot of national press lately, and for good reason. She released an innovative and unique cookbook and she began recording a cooking show for the Food Network out of her house. The cookbook, The New Midwestern Table: 200 Heartland Recipes, offers a fresh take on Midwestern dishes Thielen grew up with, as well as local gems from across the region. Her television show, the Heartland Table, takes viewers on a journey exploring all things authentically Midwestern.

Amy Thielen is a professional chef who spent seven years cooking professionally in New York City under David Bouley, Daniel Boulod, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Shea Gallante. Since returning to Minnesota in 2008, she also has written for the Star Tribune, and national publications Men’s Journal and Saveur and has won the James Beard Award for her journalism.

All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the work of the Stearns History museum to collect, preserve, and interpret the history and cultures of Central Minnesota. The event will also feature silent and live auctions and the presentation of the 3rd Annual Zapp Historian Award. In addition, Thielen will sign copies of The New Midwestern Table, which will be for sale at the event. Tickets can be purchased at the Stearns History Museum or by visiting the Museum’s website, www.stearns-museum.org.
