Featuring the SCSU Percussion Ensemble, SCSU World Drumming Group, and the debut of the SCSU iPad Ensemble, the program highlights a performance of the iconic work of composer Steve Reich – Drumming, part 1. Drumming, part 1 is written for 4 sets of bongos played by four players, and features combinations of patterns very similar to West African amadinda xylophone tradition. This piece is rarely performed, and this program gives an opportunity for the St. Cloud community to hear it live in concert. Other percussion ensemble pieces on the program included works by David Gillingham and Nathan Daugherty, improvisational compositions from Medeski, Martin and Wood drummer Billy Martin, and traditional carnival samba from the SCSU World Drumming Group.
