Pamela McNeill is returning to join George Maurer in a command performance of Stripped Down on Sunday, April 24 at 7:30pm.

Pianist-composer Maurer will host singer-songwriter McNeill on a naked stage as he accompanies McNeill and interviews her about her life and multifaceted musical career. It’s just two musicians and a grand piano revealing McNeill’s inspirations and memorable moments through original songs and inspired covers.

Central Minnesota has seen Maurer and McNeill in plenty of large-scale shows. Maurer has sold out many a venue with the George Maurer Jazz Group and played keyboards for Collective Unconscious’s stellar “Abbey Road,” “Pet Sounds” and “Déjà vu,” performances. He has spent the past couple of years doing music arrangements and playing keyboards for the national tour of the Midtown Men, featuring members of the original Tony-winning “Jersey Boys” cast. He joined the Midtown Men for an appearance on the Today Show this summer.

McNeill, perhaps best known as a Fabulous Armadillo, is also a key voice in the “Rock n Roll Xmas Spectacular,” “Rumours and Dreams” Fleetwood Mac tribute, “Love Is a Rose” Linda Ronstadt show and her own Pamela McNeill Band.

But both also have thriving solo careers, and “Stripped Down” will give them the chance to reveal some other sides of their musical personalities. Fans can join them for an intimate evening as they perform in-the-raw versions of the soundtrack of McNeill’s life, from her Mississippi River childhood and days as a backup singer for Rick Astley, namesake of the Rickroll, to her current adventures as a Nashville songwriter.

Maurer and McNeill got to know each other last summer after both had the honor of performing at the funeral of Karen Velline, wife of beloved musician and local resident Bobby Vee. They felt a musical connection from the moment they started rehearsing and knew they wanted to work together again.

“Stripped Down” gives them the opportunity to get back to basics and show the full range of McNeill’s musical career, which goes from rock to country to Yanni, for whom she has written songs.
