Las Cafeteras seamlessly fuse traditional Afro-Mexican music with modern rhythms and rich storytelling to create a fresh urban folk sound from the streets of East Los Angeles.

Their infectious sound is brought to life by a host of eclectic instruments, which inclues jarana’s, requinto, a donkey jawbone, a West African bass instrument called the Marimbol, carjón, and a wooden platform called the Tarima used to dance Zapateado. Based in traditional Son Jarocho sounds, their inspiring lyrics, sung in English, Spanish and Spanglish, reflect a story that is at once uniquely East LA yet universal in its appealing.
