Select pieces of Haley's work since 2010, in mediums other than photography (acrylic paintings, digital paintings, drawings).

Haley Tardiff, a multi-media artist from southwestern Minnesota, was born in South Carolina. An Air Force brat, she moved with her family across the country more than once. When she was in eighth grade, the family moved to Lakefield, Minnesota. She was introduced to Adobe Photoshop in 2003, and much of what she learned was self-taught. In 2006, she graduated with her Associate's degree from Minnesota West Community and Technical College, and in 2009 graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor's degree in Art Photography. In addition to her photography related art, Haley also draws and paints.

Haley currently lives in Lakefield, MN. She enjoys reading, writing, and listening to many different kinds of music. She also loves late-night cartoons and vampires.

    Artist’s Statement
While my degree is in photography, and the majority of my expertise is with Adobe Photoshop, my first artistic love has always been drawing cartoons and comics. While growing up, I would create new characters, give them personalities and stories, and draw them every single day. In college I set aside my cartoons to learn more technical skills and focus on the more “serious” art of photography. After college I no longer had access to a darkroom, and found less and less time for photography.

I started painting my monsters in 2010. The feeling I wanted to convey was a mix between cute and disturbing. The initial idea was of a simple monster with no face – just teeth – making the shape of a heart with its fingers.

My paintings began to change around 2012. I started surrounding myself with tree-related art, began painting abstracted trees, sometimes with birds or people. My love for trees stems from a craving for a history or “roots” someplace. Because I came from a military family and we moved across the country a couple times, I lack a long-term history that I can recall with friends: “Hey, remember the time…”

Mike Schneider, of Neoflux Productions, contacted me and invited me to participate in his Alice in Wonderland project after he saw my “Hatter” drawing online. The project, titled “What is the Use of a Book Without Pictures”, is a black and white visual translation (meaning there are no words, just pictures) of the original Alice in Wonderland text. Each paragraph in the book gets its own 6”x9” page. I joined the project in August 2011, and so far have completed 15 pages. We are into the second pass now, so if anyone is interested in participating, email Mike at SHENLON@HOTMAIL.COM.
