This two-day hands on workshop will be an opportunity to explore simple, functional pottery making. Briscoe’s work begins with the idea that pots are basically for food and flowers, and function is an inseparable element in the pot’s composition. “Form first” is the idea governing his pots and will be the primary theme of the workshop. Participants will discuss in the continuing relevance of this idea in the 21st century. Topics will range widely, from studio processes, equipment needs and work flow, to the always touchy subject of selling pots for income and where. We will also discuss how to create life in pots with a minimum compromise and explore the idea of articulating the form so that your pots have something to say. Participants will have a chance to try Briscoe’s throwing techniques for themselves
