I use painting, bookbinding, collage, and public art to explore challenging community-based, systematic issues. My goal as a multidisciplinary artist is to engage communities by offering an accessible entry point into visual language through deep exploration, conversation, and reflection. I received a B.A. in Studio Art (1999) and a Masters of Professional Studies in Arts & Cultural Leadership(2017), both at the University of Minnesota. During my undergraduate years, I studied Architecture, that influenced my work for years, even if it did not become my profession. As a visual artist, I started in sculpture and bookbinding, venturing into painting after school, while raising my three children. I really dove into my art practice around 2011, starting with a studio at the historic Flatiron in St. Cloud, then in a space in Little Falls. Now I am in a dual purpose studio / apartment in St. Joseph. I share my art form with schools and communities as a teaching artist since 2005, and has been selected to be on teaching rosters with Compas, Inc., VSA-Minnesota, Central MN Arts Board, and Lifetime Arts. I currently teach online through Outschool and The Bolden Fields Arts Academy. I have received several grants for my professional growth, as well as the Emerging Artist Award (CMAB) and the Outstanding Contributor to the Arts of Morrison County with FWAC. With over 12 years experience in nonprofit administration, I have run several juried exhibits, designed new art programs, and facilitated community conversations around the arts. In 2019, I was awarded with the opportunity to create the Tiny School of Art & Design, a portable art studio, to build community through the foundations of art, and serve as a value-added option for her already solid teaching artist engagements.I am a 2019 National Arts Strategies Creative Community Fellow, a 2020-2021 Springboard for the Arts Creative Community Leadership Institute fellow, and I am completing my role as the Creative Community Coordinator for a National Endowment for the Arts grant with the city of Little Falls.
