Egypt’s Sunken Cities: an evening with Jan-Lodewijk Grootaers

Presented by St. Cloud Friends of the Minneapolis Institute of Art at Courtyard by Marriott

Please join us on Tuesday evening for dinner and a lecture with Mia’s Curator of “ Egypt’s Sunken Cities”, African Art, and the Arts of Africa and the Americas Department Head. He will share exhibit information and Franck Goddio’s underwater archaeological excavation tales with us all.

Jan-Lodewijk came to Mia in 2008 as its first curator of African art. He shared the innovative reinstallation of Mia’s African galleries with us in 2013. He has since broadened the collection through numerous acquisitions. A native of Belgium, Jan-Lodewijk studied cultural anthropology at the University of Chicago for his PhD, specializing in central Africa. He joined the St. Cloud Friends last winter at APH with Aziz Osman, artist.
