This play is a farce in two acts which takes place in a small town named Luke Warm Springs, MN, on the banks of the Stocking River. The protagonists are two old, curmudgeonly friends, Buford Puckerbush and Wally Carpsnogger, whose favorite activities are fishing for an elusive giant catfish and giving each other a hard time. Their “secret” fishing hole, which seemingly everyone knows about, is on the river by the convent of The Little Sisters of the Dam. The nuns there run a river powered flour mill and bakery. They are having some financial troubles trying to keep the convent afloat. As the story unfolds, chaos builds, hijinks ensue and both the fishermen, the sisters, and the local lawman, Deputy Donat (or as the fishermen like to call him, Deputy Donut), become ensnared in a plot by two shadowy figures trying to wreak havoc at the dam.
It is a good natured romp in which the fishermen try to solve the mystery of the shadowy figures, catch Big Kitty, their giant catfish and help save the convent all at the same time. Through all of this, nothing is taken seriously, everything spins out of control, and it’s door slamming fun with falling out of boat laughter. And unlike a few of the other nun plays, the humor isn’t directed at the nuns. Rather they are hardworking, respectful yet funny, and are trying their best to save the old convent mill house, which suffers from the ravages common to old buildings.
