Lois Forbes Travel Photo Exhibit at Stearns History Musuem

Presented by Stearns History Museum at Stearns History Museum

St. Cloud native Lois Forbes (1897-1989) was a well-seasoned traveler and photographer who navigated the globe, taking pictures and dsocumenting cultures.  Enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to see her work.  The images are on display through August 31 at the Stearns History Museum thanks to a family member, Therese Kunzi-Clark.

Kunzi-Clark first met “Grandmamma” in 1979 when she and Forbes’ grandson, Kim Clark, were photography students in San Francisco.  “She (Lois Forbes) was fearless and worldly, curious and adventuresome,” Kunzi-Clark recalls.

Forbes documented her travels in the late 1950s and ’60s with a Rolleiflex Twin Lens Camera used mostly by professionals at the time.  “She was very preficient,” Kunzi-Clark explained.  “As with everything she did, she did it well.”  The exhibit highlights Forbes’ trips to Asia and Africa.  Relevant artifacts and journals from her excursions also will be on display.

Forbes was the daughter of St. Cloud Businessman A.G. Whitney and his philanthropist wife, Alice Wheelock Whitney.

The Exhibit is half closed as of August 28, 2019.
