WORLD'S FAIR: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY!

WORLD'S FAIR: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY!

Presented by Central Minnesota Youth Orchestra at First United Methodist Church

The World’s Fair has been known for its display of the greatest innovations, technology, and science of the time. This includes new discoveries in astronomy, physics which includes new developing theories of relativity.

CMYO will celebrate these discoveries by performing works of music inspired by these great discoveries. The musical selections will include two modern pieces Hidden Dimensions by Michael Hopkins which uses complex interwoven lines of music to aurally project different dimensions, and Water on Mars by Kevin Sluder which celebrates the discovery of water on Mars in 2012.

Two such franchises that have been major influences are Star Wars and Star Trek. CMYO will be performing Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Trek version which acknowledges both the original soundtrack and new combined.

The World’s Fair was not all about science and technology, there were celebrations and introductions prior to the opening of the World’s Fair. This included performances and special lecturers. CMYO will be performing Arthur Foote’s Serenade Op. 25: Praeludium that was performed at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893.
