Consortium Carissimi was founded in 1996 by Artistic Director Garrick Comeaux while living in Rome. The initial intent was uncovering and bringing to modern ears the long forgotten Italian-Roman sacred and secular music of the 16th and 17th centuries. The concert will follow the format of an Evening Vespers for Epiphany.
All the music performed comes from composers who worked in Rome for most of their lives. Stunning organ works of Frescobaldi and others…performed by Donald Livingston, Stacie Lightner, and Michael Barone…are paired with psalm settings and motets of various composers, including Giacomo Carissimi, presented by the voices and instrumentalists of Consortium Carissimi.
The concert is sponsored by MN Public Radio’s Michael Barone who was co-founder of the Chamber Music Society of St. Cloud 40 years ago.
This organization is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
