Douglas Wood – EarthSongs, EarthStories

Presented by Paramount Center for the Arts at Online/Virtual Space

A perennial favorite Virtual Fieldtrip filled with songs and stories, laughter and learning, this program has enchanted tens of thousands of school children from coast to coast. Doug draws material from his 34 published books and 5 music CDs, in a style that’s warm, engaging, and personal, a unique, one-of-a-kind program for every audience.

Author Douglas Wood is the creator of thirty four books, with over 2.5 million copies in print. Old Turtle is a famed international classic. The What Grown-Ups Can’t Do books are perennial kid favorites and New York Times best-sellers. Doug has read his books at the White House and with full choir and orchestra at the famed Lincoln Center in New York City.

Not only an author-illustrator, Doug is also an accomplished musician, singer, and composer with numerous recordings, who performs on guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

In his school programs, Doug motivates students and teachers alike with his own story of going from the “worst reader in the class,” who struggled with ADHD and dyslexia, to becoming a wilderness guide, musician, and best-selling author… who still has ADHD. Doug works extensively with literacy and student writing programs. Educators in the U.S. and beyond have used his work as the basis for student books, writing and art projects, plays, and musical and theatrical productions. Today, Douglas Wood continues to visit schools across the country, relating to kids with unmatched warmth and empathy, combining seriousness of purpose with light-hearted humour, and the rare ability to inspire.
