With large doses of jazz, funk and R&B mixed with ecstatic shouts and soulful spirituals, Ranky Tanky gives true expression to its name, a Gullah phrase that translates as “get funky!”
These five life-long friends are passionate global ambassadors for the Gullah culture, which originated among descendants of enslaved West Africans in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Ranky Tanky is being presented in partnership with the Fine Arts Series, the Multicultural Center and Student Activities & Leadership Development as a signature event for Festival of Cultures.
This free performance is presented as part of the Festival of Cultures. Community members are welcome to attend, masks must be worn throughout the performance.
