Cary Morin Duo

Cary Morin Duo

Presented by Granite City Folk Society at First Presbyterian Church

From Out West comes the Cary Morin Duo–Cary (vocals, guitar) and Celeste Di Iorio (vocals). Morin is Montana born, Colorado-based, internationally travelled. He has called his music “Native Americana,” rooted in his Crow tribal heritage and ranging through blues, Cajun, zydeco, jazz, and rock, among other traditions. His eclectic tastes are hinted at when he indentifies two of his favorite artists: David Lindley and Joanie Mitchell. But wait, there’s more–join us and see.

“As a guitar player, the first thing that struck me about Cary’s music is the originality and virtuosity in his guitar playing. Listening to his tracks I find that his singing and songwriting show the same characteristic originality and skill. He’s unique and very valuable.” –David Bromberg

“His style and influences range from the Delta Blues to jazz, folk and rock. . . . Then again, those categories seem to fall a bit short for this ‘bluesman.’ Listening to his clear and razor sharp voice rise above those earthy melodies, I hear the everyman, the humanist, perhaps a modern day Woody Guthrie. –James Filkins, Minor 7th Magazine

“Cary Morin is one of Colorado’s great treasures and has been described as one of the best pickers on the scene today. His music is characterized as Native Americana, with healthy doses of blues, bluegrass, jazz, reggae and folk.” –Benji McPhail, NPR Music

“Drawing from the blues yet not defined by any given category. Colorado fingerstyle guitarist-singer Cary Morin is a storyteller of Crow heritage who operates at the same high artistic level as Greg Brown, Jorma Kaukonen and Chris Smither.” –Downbeat Magazine
