In 2019, the Melrose Area Historical Society sponsored a presentation by Hermann Welp and Bernd Struckmann from Lower Saxony, Germany on the topic of life in northern Germany in the 1930s and why many emigrated to the U.S.
They helped several local families trace their ancestors, since many of them, including the Klaphakes, Meyers, Middendorfs, Loxtercamps, Ostendorfs, Uphoffs, Webers and Hollermans, came from Lower Saxony.
These gentlemen will be back at the Greenwald Pub on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will give a power-point presentation on German customs and organizations.
Plan to join the society for a hearty lunch, the presentation, and to socialize with friends, visitors and the presenters. The buffet style meal will be $15. You may even want to practice your German in conversation. More information will follow at a later date.
