Introduction to Marquetry

Presented by Paramount Center for the Arts at Paramount Technical Site

Explore the incredible world of Marquetry with Don Peterson! Marquestry is the art of producing pictures and decorative designs using the grain, figure, and color of wood veneers and other materials, which are then adhered to a base.

This class will cover the basics of selecting and using veneer, cutting a design from the veneer, assembling the pieces, and gluing and finishing the completed picture.

All materials and tools are included.  Pair this class with Introduction to Woodworking and insert your completed marquetry project into the tray created in the woodworking class!

Don Peterson is an experienced marquetry artist who has worked in the medium for several years and has studied with artists including Paul Schurch.  Don is with the Central Minnesota Woodworkers and is also active in the local, Lakeland, Chapter of the American Marquetry Society.
