Contemporary minimalist paintings featuring natural landscapes.

What does minimalistic mean in art? Image result for minimalist paintings. Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts.

Acrylic artist Blaine Johnson – previously known for his impressionistic landscapes and plein air (open air/outdoor) paintings is experimenting with a new style. Organic landscapes become bold, linear lines separated by bands of color that result in minimalist artwork – eliminating all non-essential forms, features, or concepts.  When asked about his creative process, Johnson stated that “I let inspiration guide me and pay particular attention to the feelings I want to evoke upon completion. I paint from the inside out. Although I work quite deliberately – consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my subconscious is the undisputed project manager.” Stop by Gallery Saint Germain (main floor) to see Johnson’s exhibition featuring his newest collection, “Pathways of Color” seen first at the Paramount Center for the Arts.
