Encaustic Relief: Painting with Wax

Presented by Paramount Center for the Arts at Paramount Visual Arts Center

*Per the instructors request, masks will be required at this class.

Marjorie Nilssen will explore various ways to transform objects into unique works of art by dipping them in wax. Participants will learn to stretch their imaginations by creating distinctive reliefs in wax.
Students will be guided through various dipping techniques and explorations to create one of a kind forms.

The focus will be on spontaneity and exploration.

Instructor: Marjorie Nilssen
*Retired Art Professor from Ridgewater College (25 years of experience)
*Professional artist for over 40 years specializing in encaustics, acrylic, oil and alcohol ink
*BA in Art from the College of St. Benedict
*MA. In Art from St. Cloud State University
*Exhibits throughout the Midwest and a one woman show in NYC in 2018

Encaustic Reliefs materials list, please bring the following to class:
*8 lb. Bag of white wax pellets from bulkapothecary.com $55.14
*2 old cookie sheets
*box of large paper clips
*15-20 small found objects that can be dipped in wax and will fit in crock pot
*used crock pot
*latex gloves
*several wooden clothes pins
*roll of twine
*small plastic table cloth
*Look for unique items vs. craft pieces! For example: an odd shaped stick from the woods vs. a pumpkin from hobby lobby.  The more objects you bring the more options you will have!
