The St. Cloud Friends of Mia are excited to welcome Tom Rassieur, Mia’s Prints and Drawings Head and the John E. Andrus III Curator of Prints and Drawings to St. Cloud on November 15, 2016. With four German organizations, he has organized the exhibition “Martin Luther: Art and the Reformation,” marking the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s “Ninety-Five Theses.”He will join us for the evening and share with us news and stories of the recently installed exhibit.
Five hundred years ago, one man took a stand that shook Europe and changed the world. Now at Mia you can see the story of Martin Luther and the Reformation brought to life through astonishing artworks and historical objects, traveling outside Germany for the first time ever. Luther used art and the newly invented printing press to challenge Europe’s leaders and spread a revolution of religious, cultural, and societal change. This exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, gold, textiles, and works on paper—as well as Luther’s personal possessions and recent archaeological finds—that shed new light on an explosive era and the man who ignited it.
It promises to be a fine start to our 2016-2017 Friends dinner and lecture season. Please join us.
Our menu for the evening will include:
