The Work…
Collisions is an exploration of themes and styles and a personal journey. By mixing subject matter and nuance to contrast one another, I weave them together in hopes that I can challenge the perceptions of the viewer. I invite them to see my work from a refracted perspective. My sexuality reads across my art vividly, as I view the human form as a beautiful construct and love seeing it as a primal baseline that all humans can tap into by simply viewing my art. Humor and skepticism lend their backhanded commentary in a lighthearted way raising questions of what is sexual, pointless, or overly praised. While my work appears introspective, in the end it is the merging of subconscious appreciation and existential dilemmas we all covertly share everyday.

The Artist…
Josiah Hendrickson, a Midwest based artist, was born in Indiana, moved to Wisconsin then spent the remainder of his childhood in the hot apartment complexes of California. Despite the chronic moving of his childhood, Josiah found creativity and art were a constant and loyal companion in his life. "Video games, inspired characters, and flowers kept me creating until anime and comics flooded my senses." While still young Josiah studied Japanese culture and melded the anime into his art. His sexuality began to become an integral part of his work after high school and the desire to share his life and experience through his art pushed him to become a prolific artist.
"At age 25 my work has become divided. It is sometimes sexual, fighting for representation, and sometimes it’s all for the "look" of it. It’s at all times sexy and unseen waiting for a second glance. Some aspects of me are still fractal and some are fighting to stay within the tapestry of myself. This show represents all the sides of myself. The artist, the homosexual, the storyteller are all here on exhibit for the viewers to see. I hope you enjoy the view. I hope you find something unexpected. I hope it pushes the outer limits of your thinking and imagination.
