The California Theatre was a vaudeville house back in 1927. Early this century, a massive upgrade restored its elaborate and beautiful interiors. Improvements were made in terms of audience comfort, theater technology, and meeting and conference facilities. Its Grand Reopening was held in 2004. Its 1,100-seat auditorium joins the select ranks of the world’s most intimate opera houses. There are only twenty rows of seats in the orchestra section, five rows in the grand tier, and six in the mezzanine. Each seat offers close proximity to the stage — essential for engaging theatre.

The intricately restored gallery-foyer and auditorium are complemented by comforts such as elevators, ample restrooms, intimate lounges, and even a courtyard with a fountain. Other important features include a stage depth of fifty feet and a pit beneath the stage that can accommodate a full orchestra. Most important to opera lovers, all acoustic tests indicate that the hall is absolutely perfect for opera.
