Artist Jodi Ligeros is debuting her colorful works at Cream City Tattoo during November.

The St. Cloud artist works in marker on 9-by-12-inch paper and 6-by-6-inch canvas. She will display more than 50 pieces, including some three-dimensional works, in her show “The Groovie Girls.”

The theme is a throwback to the 1960s and the time of go-go boots and fashion wear depicted in Ligeros’ works. The women in her pieces have limited facial features in order to focus on the fashion of the time.

The fashion, she said, represents female power and unity and a time of change in the world.

As an artist, she said, she hopes viewers reflect on how today’s world is changing.

“We don’t have time to reflect on many things,” she said. “With social media it’s here and gone and we don’t really celebrate or grasp what’s going on.”

The women in her imagery are drawn with a 180 degree, backward image of themselves which Ligeros said represents the two sides of every person.

“Sometimes we’re the caring person and sometimes we’re the person who needs to be cared for,” she said. “Sometimes we have the voice and sometimes we need someone to have the voice for us.”

Her work is colorful, she said, because life isn’t black and white, people accomplish a lot at one time and there are many different facets to each being.

There will be a reception for the show from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 6 during the St. Cloud Art Crawl. Ligeros will be on site to discuss her work with guests, though she isn’t planning a formal talk.
