Each year for the past 67 years, members of Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, Minnesota, have celebrated the Santa Lucia Festival of Lights with a traditional early morning candlelit program. On Saturday, December 10, they will again celebrate the legend of Santa Lucia as the symbol of light and hope to humanity.
The public is invited to join in the festivities and learn about the legend of Lucia as well as see the 2016 Lucia enter the sanctuary wearing a white gown and glowing crown of candles—a tradition of young Lucias for six decades before her. They will also meet King Knut, Lucia’s escort, and learn about his Scandinavian heritage. Following the short program, all guests are invited to a Swedish breakfast of traditional sweets, potato sausage, oranges and coffee.
This event is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be accepted.
