Beginner Pottery Series #5: Glazing and Finishing

These beginner pottery classes are a comprehensive and intensive approach to a well-rounded education in the art form of clay pottery. Each class is focused on gaining knowledge and skill on the steps and process toward successful pottery results. Classes 4 and 5 in the series allow for the hands-on creation and finishing of a piece of pottery of your own using the skills learned in the other classes. We encourage you to sign up for all of the classes offered for a well-rounded education, but most are available as stand alone classes.
There is a $25 discount for signing up for all five classes. Discount will only occur in the online checkout when all five classes are added to the cart and purchased together.
The class (#5) can be a stand alone class, and we will:
• Learn glazing techniques
• Go over choosing a glaze and technique that best suits your project
• Learn underglazing and staining bisqueware
• Learn waxing for decorative techniques at this stage
• Glaze a piece of pottery (your own if you took class #4) (If you wish to learn to glaze and finish your mug, and do a final glaze firing to complete it, please consider taking class #5 as well)
If you built a piece in Class #4, this is a good class in which to finish it.

Number of class sessions: 1
Materials: If you took class #4 and built a piece, bring it to finish it. If you didn’t, don’t worry. All other materials will be provided by the 510 Art Lab at no additional cost.
Ages: This class is appropriate for adults and children 15 and up.
Prerequisites: None
Instructor: Nikki Moritz, a Sauk Centre native, from Bee Happy Pottery. Nikki has been teaching pottery for several years, at various skill levels and age groups.
